We create vests with multiple options. Pockets? Hood? Higher collar? More length? Just let us know!
All of our down filled outerwear are made to our usual high standards with 100% Canadian prime white goose down. This means greater warmth, less weight and longer life. You can choose something off of the rack or pick the color, type of fabric and options. Our fabrics are tested to make sure they are ‘down proof’ (do not leak down pods). All edges are hot cut so that they will not fray. The poly/cotton cloth is a blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton. The 65/35 cloth is less prone to catastrophic failure through snagging, tearing or melting. However, it’s useful life, barring mishap, is about the same as the nylon cloth. Waterproof/breathable material is also available. Strong synthetic and cotton wrap thread is used, double or triple stitched where necessary.
Our zippers are #5 and #10 YKK delrin tooth zippers which, in our experience, are the best available. They are light and operate well in the cold. These zippers are strong but if you break one it can be easily replaced.
Inner jacket in rip-stop nylon
Outer parka with waterproof-breathable shell
inner jacket with 65/35 cloth
This is the same parka that has been everywhere from Annapurna to Ascot. Quite frankly, our parka system makes such good sense that we can’t figure out why it doesn’t have more imitators than it does already. The parka system consists of two down filled jackets which can be worn separately or combined, covering a wide range of conditions without the bother of carrying (or owning) a multiplicity of garments. The inner jacket is ideal for mild to mid winter conditions (some of our customers claim to be warm at -20C and even a bit colder). Light, easy to compress and pack, this jacket has been to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro several times that we know of (starts off in the pack at the bottom and is gratefully put on as they approached the summit). It is the ultimate travel jacket. The outer parka is great for cold winter conditions. Still relatively light weight but with a hood and extra length. In really bitter cold, combine both jackets and you have an incredibly thick and warm expedition parka. Average downfill: Inner – 225 gr. (8 oz.), Outer – 390 gr. (14 oz.), total 525 gr. (1 lb. 2.75 oz.). For 65/35 cloth outer shells add 140 gr. (5 oz.) for the inner and 280 gr. (10 oz.) for the outer.
Quintessential mountain wear, especially useful for climbing or ski touring. Constructed of strong water repellent 65/35 cloth completely lined with ripstop nylon. The Baffin has adjustable velcro closure cuffs, 2 way YKK zipper, a storm flap closed with snaps or velcro over zip. Cargo/handwarmer pockets with mitten grab loops to open velcro closure over cargo pocket, interior zippered pocket, 2 outside breast pockets and hood and waist drawstrings. Also available with waterproof/breathable fabric for even better weather protection. Total weight 900 gr. (2 lbs.).
Down pants legs Zipper together
These convertible pants are ideal for keeping warm. Our down pants have evolved from a humble beginning (a couple of pairs made to quiet the nagging of friends) into one of our most popular items of expedition wear. The pants are constructed of ripstop nylon or 65/35 cloth as you prefer and are thickly insulated with goose down. The pants are armpit length for extra draft protection and have drawstrings at top, waist and ankles. Worn with suspenders during the day, at night the pants convert into a half sleeping bag or ‘elephants foot’ by means of zippers on the inseam. So deployed, the pants are useful for bivouac or to extend the range of your sleeping bag. The zips also make it an easy matter to put the pants on or take them off without removing your boots. Leg zippers and crotch have zipper baffles to cut drafts. Total weight 0.84 kg. (1 lb. 14 oz.). Add 85 gr. (3 oz.) for pants with the 65/35 cloth.
Excellent insulation combined with very light weight make our down vest an ideal garment. Snap or zip enclosure. Down filled collar and hand warmer pockets. Usually cut long in the back. Made of ripstop nylon or 65/35 cloth. Average down fill’ 146 gr. (5 oz.) Total weight 350 gr. (12.5 oz.) Add 56 gr. (2oz.) for 65/35 cloth.
Super warm footwear for cold winter camping. Sole is insulated with 1/2 inch ensolite. Nylon uppers are baffled and thickly insulated with down. Elastic at heel and drawstring at top keep booties on your feet. Waterproof, crackproof cordura soles and lower sides. Most other booties are usable only in tent or cabin because of their flimsy construction and because they are so slippery. Our booties are suitable for limited trips around camp because their construction is more rigid than that of most booties and the cordura soles provide reasonable traction. Still light at 225 gr. (8 oz.) and they pack up small. SEND FOOT OUTLINE WHEN ORDERING!
